Love this. Like with writing (and scrolling), it’s the little moments that add up. But I find I read most deeply when my phone is in another room entirely, otherwise I feel its addictive pull. And Dusk is on my bedside table too!
I couldn't agree more - if I have my phone next to me when I'm reading I find myself reaching for it to look things up all the time - reviews, places mentioned in the book, the author, etc... We will have to swap Dusk notes when the time comes! I have a few library books to read first.
I read every night too. And I try to set aside a small amount of time in the morning to read also. I've realised I'm a seasonal reader. Over winter, I read and read and read. Come spring, I've been creating a lot more and hence my reading time has slipped. This is okay though. Because I know it will always be there, even if it's only a few pages before bed.
You might enjoy my other publication Mother Reader too.
Ah reading a book, now that is one of the best pleasures of this life. As a mother I find the only time I can do this is in bed, so I don't get as much reading done as I would like. I do pack my book in my bag when I am going out, in the hope I can squeeze some reading in, sometimes works. How is the Dusk novel, I want to read this too. Thanks for the audio interview, I will listen on my walk tomorrow.
Time opens up in different ways depending on what phase we are in. My best reading time is in bed too, with small opportune moments snatched here and there amongst my day. Like you, it sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t! I haven’t started Dusk yet, but am so looking forward to reading it.
Always always pack my book in bag, you just never know when you’ll have a spare moment. I’ve been known to cook dinner and read a book at the same time. Reading brings me so much joy and comfort. It’s a great way to escape the busyness that life demands. Depending on the book, it has the ability to drag you to a whole other place and forget about all the other shit going on.

That's a lovely rhythm from winter reading to spring making. Will take a look at your other substack too. Have a great week and thanks for commenting!
